Annotation -
This course focuses on reinforcing and consolidating the fundamentals of functional anatomy and mastering basic examination and therapeutic techniques in physiotherapy. The teaching includes anatomical terminology, body orientation, basic examination methods (anthropometry, goniometry, muscle testing), and movement therapy techniques, including passive and active exercises. It also covers skills development in patient handling, respiratory physiotherapy, and thromboembolic prevention, with an emphasis on practical application in clinical settings.

Aim of the course -

Course Objectives:

The aim of this course is to provide students with practical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary for fundamental diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in physiotherapy. During practical lessons, students will learn body orientation, patient handling, and the application of specific examination and therapeutic methods. Special emphasis is placed on skills in respiratory physiotherapy and thromboembolic prevention, movement therapy (both passive and active movements), and the examination of the muscular and joint systems. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to effectively conduct basic kinesiological analyses, apply basic examination and therapeutic procedures, and safely handle patients in clinical conditions.

Specific Course Objectives:

  1. To equip students with practical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary for basic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in physiotherapy.
  2. To learn body orientation with emphasis on anatomical structures and their function.
  3. To master proper patient handling techniques, including positioning and verticalization.
  4. To apply specific examination and therapeutic methods, including anthropometry, goniometry, and muscle testing.
  5. To develop skills in respiratory physiotherapy and thromboembolic prevention.
  6. To learn techniques for passive and active movements and basic exercise positions.
  7. To perform kinesiological analyses, evaluate movement patterns, and diagnose movement system disorders.
  8. To safely apply therapeutic procedures in clinical conditions and adapt them to patient needs.

Learning Outcomes:

Knowledge:

  • Directions of planes and anatomical terminology necessary for accurate localization and description of anatomical structures of the human body.
  • Basics of the structure and function of movement system tissues including osteology, arthrology, and muscle structure.
  • Muscles of various body segments and their functional relationships to the movement system.
  • Principles of respiratory physiotherapy and thromboembolic prevention, and their significance in therapeutic practice.
  • Basics of kinesiological positions and their use in passive and active exercises.
  • Principles of basic examination procedures such as anthropometry, goniometry, and muscle testing.
  • Mechanics of standing and walking, including methods for their examination.

Skills:

  • Recognize and define individual parts of the axial system, including the spine and its functions within the movement system.
  • Understand the structure and functionality of joints and their role in movement functions.
  • Understand the structure and functionality of muscles in various body segments, including their role in movement patterns.

Competencies:

  • Collect patient history and identify relevant information needed for therapeutic interventions.
  • Orient on the human body, accurately identify anatomical structures and their functions.
  • Perform patient handling including verticalization and positioning.
  • Apply techniques of respiratory physiotherapy and prevention of thromboembolic complications.
  • Conduct passive and assisted exercises aimed at restoring functional movements.
  • Lead conditioning exercises, including active movements and basic exercise positions.
  • Perform palpation for anthropometric exercises.
  • Carry out anthropometric measurements of the upper and lower limbs and measure distances on the spine.
  • Examine shortened muscles and propose an appropriate therapeutic plan.
