The focus of this course is for students to consider how observing young children playing and learning is necessary to support effective learning opportunities as well as children's holistic development. Students will reflect upon their own practice with children so they recognise the importance of high quality early childhood education and care (ECEC) as a foundation for future learning. Students will also be introduced to some of the historical pioneers of early childhood education as well as theories of learning to understand how the past can inform teaching children today. The course is suitable for students studying pre-primary and primary education as well as related subjects in their home universities.
