Členitost literárně-historického terénu: vztah klasicismu, manýrismu a baroka, střetávání protichůdných proudů jansenismu a libertinismu. Provázanost monarchistické ideologie, jazykového purismu, statického pojetí krásna a karteziánského racionalismu. Důsledky karteziánského dualismu pro koncepci lidského individua: Descartesovo cogitum a jeho rezonance v umění. Boileauovo L´Art poétique a odstíněné vymezení estetických kategorií (heroické, heroicko-komické, burleskní a tzv. "le sublime"). Klasicistní divadlo, próza, klasicistní moralismus.
