The course focuses on the acquisition and confirmation of knowledge in those areas what are directly connected with professional student’s interest. But they may not have a direct connection with the theme of his dissertation. Although the main scientific interest leads student at the very beginning of the study to the selection and definition of the scientific topic at the beginning of his studies, a wider range of professional interest motivates him also usually to deal with other topics. This matter is used at conferences or in journal studies and becomes a natural basis for scientific growth of students. Finally, it contributes to a qualified view on the main topic processed in the dissertation.

Předmět je zaměřen na získávání a utvrzování znalostí v těch hudebněpedagogických a hudebněteoretických oblastech, které bezprostředně souvisejí s úzkým odborným zájmem doktoranda, které však nemusejí mít přímou souvislost s tématem práce samotné. Přestože rozhodující vědecký zájem vede doktoranda již na samém počátku studia k výběru a definici tématu disertační práce, širší odborně zájmové spektrum ho zpravidla motivuje i k tomu, aby se během studia alespoň dotýkal dalších oblastí a aby tyto zkušenosti zúročoval v publikační činnosti a v prezentaci na konferencích. Taková činnost vhodným způsobem utvrzuje nezbytný vědecký fundament doktoranda a potažmo přispívá i ke kvalifikovanému náhledu na stěžejní téma zpracovávané v disertační práci.
