Annotation -
The course introduces students to fundamental qualitative and quantitative research methods in science didactics and pedagogical research. The course guides students to understand the pros and cons of using each method in research and to be able to reflect them in their scientific work. The course includes independent study of materials (scientific articles, studies, etc.) related to research methods and discussion with colleagues. To a large extent, the course is conducted using the flipped classroom method, where topics related to didactic research are discussed after studying the literature.

Learning outcomes -

In the course, students will master the following learning outcomes:

  • Identify basic qualitative and quantitative research methods used in chemistry didactics.
  • They apply selected research methods to specific scientific problems in science didactics.
  • They analyze and critically evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of research methods used in science didactic research.
  • They reflect the findings in their scientific work and propose appropriate methodological approaches.
  • They discuss scientific articles and studies related to research methods with colleagues and formulate critical opinions on their benefits and limitations.
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of the selection of different methods for different types of research problems.
  • Synthesize findings from different methodological approaches into designs for their research projects.
