The course introduces students to fundamental qualitative and quantitative research methods in science didactics and pedagogical research. The course guides students to understand the pros and cons of using each method in research and to be able to reflect them in their scientific work. The course includes independent study of materials (scientific articles, studies, etc.) related to research methods and discussion with colleagues. To a large extent, the course is conducted using the flipped classroom method, where topics related to didactic research are discussed after studying the literature.

Cílem kurzu je seznámit studenty a studentky s vybranými základními metodami kvalitativního a kvantitativního výzkumu v didaktice přírodovědných oborů a pedagogickém výzkumu. Kurz vede studenty k tomu aby byli schopni pochopit klady a zápory využití jednotlivých metod při výzkumu a mohli je reflektovat ve vlastní vědecké práci. Součástí kurzu je samostatné studium podkladů (vědeckých článků, studií, apod.) souvisejících s výzkumnými metodami a jejich diskuze s kolegy. Do velké míry probíhá kurz metodou převrácené třídy, kdy jsou po nastudování odborné literatury probírána témata související s didaktickým výzkumem.

Requirements to the exam -
To complete the course, students are required to attend and demonstrate that they have studied the assigned readings by being able to discuss them in the course meetings. They will also present the research method(s) they wish to apply when conducting their research in the seminar.

Pro úspěšné absolvování kurzu jsou studenti povinni jej navštěvovat a prokázat skutečnost, že prostudovali zadanou literaturu tím, že o ní budou schopni v rámci setkání v kurzu diskutovat. V rámci semináře také představí metodu výzkumu nebo metody výzkumu, které chtějí uplatnit při realizaci svého výzkumu.

In the course, students will master the following learning outcomes:
Identify basic qualitative and quantitative research methods used in chemistry didactics.
They apply selected research methods to specific scientific problems in science didactics.
They analyze and critically evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of research methods used in science didactic research.
They reflect the findings in their scientific work and propose appropriate methodological approaches.
They discuss scientific articles and studies related to research methods with colleagues and formulate critical opinions on their benefits and limitations.
Evaluate the appropriateness of the selection of different methods for different types of research problems.
Synthesize findings from different methodological approaches into designs for their research projects.

V rámci kurzu si studenti osvojí následující výsledky učení:
Identifikují základní kvalitativní a kvantitativní výzkumné metody používané v didaktice chemie.
Aplikují vybrané výzkumné metody na konkrétní vědecké problémy v oblasti didaktiky přírodovědných oborů.
Analyzují a kriticky hodnotí výhody a nevýhody jednotlivých výzkumných metod při jejich využití v didaktickém výzkumu.
Reflektují získané poznatky ve své vlastní vědecké práci a navrhují vhodné metodické postupy.
Diskutují vědecké články a studie související s výzkumnými metodami s kolegy a formulují kritické názory na jejich přínosy a omezení.
Vyhodnotí vhodnost výběru jednotlivých metod pro různé typy výzkumných problémů.
Syntetizují poznatky z různých metodologických přístupů do návrhů vlastních výzkumných projektů.
