Annotation -
A key application of molecular cytogenetics is the visualization of specific sequences on chromosome
preparations or interphase nuclei using Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH). The FISH method has a wide
range of applications in research and diagnostic applications. Students will have the opportunity to perform FISH
on chromosome slides with several probe variants (whole genome probes, tandem repeat probes) as well as
with different types of probe labelling (direct labelling with fluorescent dyes, biotin labelling and subsequent
detection with fluorochrome-associated antibodies). Participants will go through the procedure from chromosome
preparation, performing FISH and subsequent microscopic evaluation, image postprocessing and presentation.
The course will include a full-day excursion to the Animal Cytogenetics Facility of the CAS in Liběchov.
