Annotation
The “Cultural Heritage in Prague” seminar focuses on significant sites and monuments. Together we will visit the
famous districts (Hradčany, Lesser Quarter, Old Town, and Josefov) and discover the beauty of architecture from
the Romanesque and Gothic periods, Renaissance and Baroque styles, and Historicism, Secession, and
Cubism. Through specific tasks, students will learn how to describe and classify architectural elements into
specific periods and will learn how to understand the principles of decorative systems. Students will work in small
teams to prepare answers to specific questions about the wider historical context of heritage and conservation.
Through worksheets and accompanying materials, they will learn to describe and classify monuments based on
formal elements. Lessons will take place in the city, in gardens, in front of facades or inside churches and other
cultural monuments. The seminar is intended for art history students from the daily study program of the KTF, as
well as Erasmus+ students from all disciplines and different study programs of the CU. Suppose you are
interested in cultural heritage and would like to learn more about Prague's urban and architectural ensembles of
outstanding quality. If so, you are most welcome to attend this seminar.
