Annotation -
The course focuses on preparation for the exam, which is a condition for completing a doctoral study, in particular on deepening presentation skills and creating a professional article. Students of the doctoral study program will become familiar with professional literature written in English and the specifics of academic English. They will learn to apply and expand their professional vocabulary when discussing and arguing about issues in a given medical field.

Course completion requirements -

 

Written Part

  • Writing a scientific paper in English in the relevant field, with a length of 7–12 standard pages:

Ø  Format: A4

Ø  Line spacing: 1.5

Ø  Margins: 3 cm on the left, 2 cm on the right, 2.5 cm at the top and bottom

Ø  Font: Arial, Times New Roman, Verdana, or Calibri

Ø  Font size: 12

Ø  Structure: 1. Title page, 2. Abstract, 3. Main text, 4. References

  • The article must be submitted no later than 14 days before the scheduled date of the oral part of the exam

 

Oral Part

  • Presentation based on the written paper:
    • Introduction of the candidate (5 minutes)
    • Presentation (minimum 10 and maximum 15 minutes)
    • Discussion (5minutes)
    • Evaluation based on criteria available in Moodle
  • At least one consultation with the examiner must take place before the oral exam

Each lesson (90 min.) is designed as a separate unit, which includes the following elements: 1. Presentation skills 2. Basic forms of written expression (abstract, professional article, etc.) 3. Academic English 4. Difficult phenomena for users of English as a foreign language 5. Analysis and reproduction of text from various medical fields
