The Essential Pain Management Course has been developed with the support of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists by Wayne Morriss from Christchurch, New Zealand and Roger Goucke from Perth in Australia to improve care and treatment of patients suffering from pain. Lecturers at the 3rd Medical Faculty have passed training for teaching this course by one of inventors - Dr. Morriss. Each 2 hours lesson of the course consists of theoretical part and discussion of case reports.

The basic aims of this course are:

• To improve understanding of pain

• To teach a simple framework for managing pain

• To reduce pain management barriers

Teaching methods

Each 2 hours lesson of the course consists of theoretical part and discussion of case reports. There are 5 lessons during the course and active approach of participants is necessary during each lesson.

Syllabus

1.       Introduction, pre-test (for self-assessment). What is pain and why should we treat it - 2 examples

2.       Physiology and pathology of pain, classification of pain, pain treatment overview, pain drugs, case reports and discussion

3.       Organisation of pain treatment. Barriers to pain management. Discussion.

4.       Case discussions

5.       Post-test, feedback. Credits.
