The subject introduces the main language principles of medical terminology system. During classes students practise the understanding of authentic Latin phrases (on authentic anatomical and clinical materials) and learn how to form the phrases, using the Latin grammar system and adequate vocabulary. Essencial part of vocabulary is formed by Latin and Greek word stems. Main principles of medical terminology word formation are introduced on authentical dentistry materials.
Requirements to the exam
Last update: Petra Brandejsová (14.09.2018)

Conditions to gain credit:

Student has to successfully pass the vocabulary tests, the midterm test and the credit test.

Students have 3 chances to pass the credit test. The 1st date (during the lastpractical classes) is obligatory for all students. If a student does not come (without an officially confirmed reason), he/she fails and loses the 1st chance.

During the winter examination period, several dates for the 2nd attempt will be posted in the SIS, from which a student can choose. For those who do not pass (or do not come), the 3rd (i.e. last) attempt will be organized in September. You can sit for the credit parts only in the given dates, which means that if you come at the last date and you do not pass, there will not be any other chances.

Conditions to pass the final examination:

The final examination consists of medical phrase translation (both from Latin to English and English to Latin) and etymological explanation of medical terminology. The final examination includes all the materials provided in winter semester.

There are 3 chances for the final examination.

Dates will be posted in the SIS. A student has to sign up (or cancel) for the chosen date.
