Introduction to pharmacology, general terms. Pharmacopeia. Introduction to general pharmacology. Pharmacokinetics - absorption, distribution and elimination. Biotransformation of drugs. Bioassay. Pharmacodynamics - mechanisms of drug action, general principles and molecular aspects, drug receptors, quantitation of drug-receptor interactions. Individual variation and drug interaction. Adverse effects of drugs. Clinical trials. Local anaesthetics and other drugs that affect excitable membranes. General anaesthetics. Hypnotics, sedatives. Therapy of the epilepsies and Parkinson's disease. Treatment of psychiatric disorders. Opioid analgesics, analgesics -antipyretics. Antiinflammatory agents, the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and gout.
