Subject Data and transmission networks follows the subject Local area networks and extends the student's knowledge of contemporary issues including the concept of heterogeneous networks, the Internet in terms of their structure and administration. Objective of the subject of study Data and transmission networks is to provide information on issues of data transfers, a more holistic view of communication protocol for the most commonly used data network in response to each layer OSI model and application specific designs computer networks to the extent of reciting the substance, ie, those topics : Networking MAN and backbone networks, FDDI and ATM technologies. WAN. Synchronous, asynchronous and arrhythmical transmission. Ensuring transparency of data, character and bit oriented protocols. Fixed and dial-up, protocols SLIP and PPP. High-speed transmission networks X25 and Frame Relay, ISDN, xDSL, cable, microwave and satellite modems. Network security, terminology, methods of attack and protection against them. Restrict access, access control lists, firewall, NAT translation, intranet. System reliability, the influence of topology, redundant paths, STP protocol.
