DESCRIPTION

The course is aimed to help students know the characteristics of Thai language and develop the understanding of
reading and writing systems.
This course is intended for not only the novices but also for the students who have already listening and speaking
competency but need to acquire reading and writing skills.
The contents of this course cover an introduction of Thai alphabets starting from consonant classes, short- and
long-
vowels, tone marks and tone rules for each class of consonant both with and without tone marks.
Practice reading and writing is needed when each topic is given both as classroom work and homework.

Letní semestr

The course the continuation of Reading and Writing Thai 1 which was given in winter semester.
The students will learn more about the characteristics of Thai language and develop the understanding of reading
and writing systems.

OBJECTIVES
  • To provide fundamental skills of reading and writing.
  • To help the learners understand basic rules of reading and writing.
  • To help the learners develop tone analysis skills to recognize and differentiate
words’ meanings.

  • To help the learners to be able to correctly pronounce the sounds and write

the words with self-confidence.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of the course, successful students will be able to:

  • Understand basic Thai reading and writing systems.
  • Identify consonant classes (middle, high, low), short -and long-vowels.
  • Understand basic rules of tone modulations and differentiate the sounds.
  • Correctly read and write simple words, phrases and sentences in Thai scripts.
