1. Introduction to mass spectrometry
History of mass spectrometry. Main parts of mass spectrometer. Fundamentals of ion optics. Mass spectrum, resolving power, sensitivity. Vacuum system of mass spectrometers.

2. Ionisation techniques
Electron ionisation, ionisation cross section, critical potentials, internal energy, fragmentation. Soft ionisation technique. Ionisation sources. Sample introductions into ionisation sources.

3. Mass analyzers
Magnetic sector analyzers, single and double focusing of ions. Time of flight analyzers, space and velocity focusing, reflector time of flight analyzers. Quadrupole analyzers. Ion traps. Ion cyclotron resonance. Hybrid systems.

4. Ion detection
Faraday cup, electron multipliers, microchannel plates, conversion detectors.

5. Interpretation of spectra
Convectional procedure, qualitative and quantitative analyse of electron ionisation spectra. Cracking patterns. Partial pressure analysis in vacuum system.
