Computer acquisition of experimental data. Basic methods of time series analysis. Estimation of parameters of linear and nonlinear models. Data filtering, interpolation. Random processes, correlation and spectral analysis, discrete transformations. Real data application examples on distribution function analysis of charged particles and electromagnetic waves in space plasma. Measurement of analogue and digital signals in electron spectroscopy, graphical programming in LabView, processing of experimental data in IGOR and ORIGIN. Methods of image measurement and analysis.

Computer acquisition of experimental data
Block diagram of computer controlled experiment, sensors. Signal sampling, Nyquist theorem, aliasing. Digitizing of analog signal, measurement errors. Time/frequency measurement, event counting.

Measurement and data processing - examples from in space physics
Experimental methods in space physics. Measurement examples from artificial satellites. Measurement errors and their characteristics. Measurement of charged-particle distribution function in space plasma. Estimation of parameters of linear and nonlinear models. Maximum likelihood method.

Time series analysis, application on measurements of space plasma waves
Measurement of electromagnetic waves onboard artificial satellites. Random processes and their properties. Correlation and spectral analysis, discrete transformations. Estimation of power spectra. Spectral analysis of D/A and A/D conversion as linear systems, convolution. Data de-spiking, sampling and averaging, enhancement of conversion resolution, increasing/decreasing of sampling frequency, digital filtering. Examples of coordinated multi-spacecraft measurements.

Measurement of analogue and digital signals in electron spectroscopy
Basic features of graphical programming in LabView, data collection and processing using LabView, examples of simple applications, data filtering and fitting, data file formats, visualisation, analysis and presentation of experimental data using IGOR and ORIGIN programs.

Methods of image measurement and analysis
Image analysis and processing, calibration of imaging setup, tresholding, measurement of distance and size of objects, examples of processing of diffraction patterns, description of island structures, processing of transmission electron micrographs.
