An elective seminar for 1st and 2nd year students of General Mathematics.
The aim of the seminar is to introduce a series of topics of geometry, algebra and physics, which do not fit into
regular courses. The unifying idea will be the symmetry and invariance principles in many variations.

Volitelný seminář je určen zejména pro studenty 1. a 2. ročníku oboru OM.
Cílem semináře je seznámit studenty s řadou témat z pomezí geometrie, algebry a fyziky, která se do
standardních přednášek nevejdou. Sjednocující idea bude princip symetrie a invariance v nejrůznějších
podobách.

The seminar consists of four lecture series, 3 or 4 lectures each, by several lecturers. The content varies from year to year. Past topics include non-euclidean geometry, Moebius group, classification of smooth vector fields on the sphere, knot theory, solvability of higher order polynomial equations, discrete Fourier transform and many others.

Seminář se skládá ze čtyř přednáškových sérií, každá po 3-4 přednáškách, od různých přednášejících. Obsah sérií se rok od roku obměňuje. Témata v minulosti zahrnovala například neeuklidovskou geometrii, Moebiovskou grupu, klasifikaci hladkých vektorových polí na sféře, teorii uzlů, řešitelnost polynomiálních rovnic vyššího stupně, diskrétní Fourierovu transformaci, kvaterniony a mnoho dalšího.
