The course focuses on the use of audio as one of the principal components of contemporary multimedia, including the video games, interactive multimedia presentations, theater performances, and museum exhibitions. The course presents a “vertical slice” of audio programming, production, and design and elaborates on handling of sound by the operating system, software techniques for audio processing and synthesis, audio middleware, implementation of game audio, content production, and content design.

The course is a useful source of information about interactive audio for individuals as well as members of large teams who intend to work on multimedia projects ranging from simple videos to AAA video games.

Software developers will learn (1) how to implement the audio in their project, (2) the range of typical requirements of audio designers and musicians in their team.

Game designers and interaction designers will learn the extent to which it is possible to utilize the sound and music as one of the modalities of their multimedia product or title.

Sound designers and music composers will learn about the current technology and techniques available for their creative expression.

Project managers, producers, and creative directors will learn about the the different roles within the interactive audio industry and how their workflows communicate and overlap in order to be able to optimize the way how work on the project is organized.

To successfully pass the course you will be given an examination task to realize, which will be graded; you also need a credit for the labs.

To gain the credit from the labs, it is mandatory: to select a topic for your semestral project and to implement it.
