Annotation -
The subject is a combination of introduction to linguo-didactic, applied linguistics and practical language seminar aiming to develop advanced language competences at the levels of C1 and C2, using specialist texts on language teaching and acquisition in the form of text-, genre- and content-based approaches to language teaching. The students gain greater command of advanced language forms at the level of grammar, lexis and discourse while encountering key topics and issues in the fields of language teaching and acquisition. Using short micro-teaching slots on selected aspects of grammatical and lexical features they learn essential techniques of presenting new language and they learn to give and receive feedback. The subject is taught in English.

1. Introductory seminar - English in contemporary world.
2.–4. Problematic tenses. Language and identity.
5.–6. Indirect speech. Applied linguistics.
7.–8. Verb voice. Second anguage acquisition.
9.–10. Modality. Language proficiency and what it means to "know" a language.
11.–12. Verb complementation (gerund, infinitive). Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Requirements to the exam -

Credit requiremetns

Submitting the introductory essay for the student portfolio in the first week of term (max. 24 points depending on the quality of language and content).

Regular attendance in the seminars (3 points for each attended seminar). Each absence results in 5% being deducted from the overall score.

Completion of weekly Moodle assignments (each week max. 5 points based on the accuracy of the answers).

Preparing and delivering a presentation on a given topic (max. 30 points, assessment as per a rubric introduce in the first seminar).

Successful completion of regular tests for compulsory vocabulary (in weeks 5, 10 and 13) (max. 25 points per test, minimum 67% to pass, otherwise a resit is necessary – max. one resit).

Successful completion of the final test in the exam period (max. 100points, minimum 67% to pass, otherwise a resit is necessary – max. one resit).
