Annotation

OBJECTIVES
This one-semester course will begin by dealing with the emergence of Irish feminism in the 1970s and then deal with the poetry and essays of Eavan Boland. We will then consider representations of women in the work of Irish male writers such as W. B. Yeats and Seamus Heaney. The work of neglected women poets of the past such as Emily Lawless and Eva Gore-Booth will be read, and then we will look at contemporary poetry by Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Medbh McGuckian, Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Paula Meehan, Vona Groarke and Caitríona O?Reilly.

ASSESSMENT
For the credit students must present an essay of 3,000 words. Erasmus students may receive 6 international points for the normal course requirements; for 9 points they must do an essay of 6000 words, not 3000.
