OBJECTIVES
This course offers a critical survey of developments in American Art from the post-WWII period until the present. Artists
treated include: Lee Krasner, Willem DeKooning, Jackson Pollock, Joan Mitchell, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Cy
Twombly, Franz Kline, James Rosenquist, Andy Warhol, Julian Schnabel and Jean-Michel Basquiat ?. Particular inattention
will be given to the role of the Black Mountain College and to the various ideologies of the artist as creator, engineer or
bricoleur.
