The subject “History in Context of Social Sciences” comes out of current framework educational programmes (educational area Human and Society). It aims to ground historical knowledge of future social sciences teachers in context within the social sciences. The subject comes out of an assumption of historical events as an intersection point of geographical, historical, economic and social processes, which have been uniquely shaping a certain area and its people. Its aim is to introduce students with major milestones of the Czech and European society development and with processes which have a great impact on formatting a social climate. It focuses on particularities of development of European civilizational and cultural sphere as well as values on which the current European society is build. It also aims to clarify the roots of racist, xenophobic and extremist attitudes. A comparative point of view will allow students of the bachelor programme to examine a spectrum of social-scientific issues in their full range. Findings acquired during the lectures will be subsequently deepened in seminars. Within the subject, the students will be led to achieve an ability to understand historical events, to interpret them and use them afterwards during their own lessons of social sciences.
