Methods

During this course, we will cover a range of materials connected with Speaking, Listening, Grammar, Writing, Reading and Pronunciation of English. These materials will incorporate concepts based on subjects connected with the Humanities, namely Psychology, Philosophy, Literature, Music, Film, Sociology, Gender, Art and Anthropology, as well as other related subjects. Students will be regularly tested on their English skills and regular writing homework is given. 

Assessment will be based on participation and attendance as well as the standard of submitted homework and test results.

Summative assessment is by homework submitted at the end of each class, to be given in at the beginning of the following class.

 

The midterm paper is a formative paper. The topic of the midterm paper has to be related to the academic paper that we will read before the midterm. The word limit for the midterm paper is max. 1 500 words. To submit the midterm paper is a necessary condition for submitting the final paper.

The final paper will be incorporated into the summative assessment. The topic of the final paper has to be related to the academic paper that we will read during the second part of the term. The word limit for the final paper is max. 1 500 words.

0-100 points and marks will be distributed based on the following three criteria and the mark scheme.

If a student’s paper is found to have exceeded the specified word limit for an assessment, his or her work will be subject to a penalty: deduction of 7 points off the final score.

Students will follow a series of debates, presentations and discussions of various forms of themes related to the humanities subjects. Students will be continuously assessed on their understanding of the grammatical, written, listening, speaking, pronunciation and reading aspects of the material covered in each lesson. Students are required to attend regularly and submit homework in order to ensure sufficient progress and achievement in the required areas of the course.
