In this reading seminar we focus on Aristotle’s account of soul, with special regard to the soul’s capacities related to sleeping and dreaming. We shall read selected passages from Aristotle’s On the Soul and three short treatises from the Parva Naturalia, namely On Sleep and Waking, On Dreams, and On Prophesy in Sleep. We will also consult relevant passages from works of Hippocratic authors, pre-Socratic philosophers, and Plato.
