In this course on Hispanic literature, we will read short stories by Spanish-speaking writers to explore the richness of their voices, forms, and themes in this genre. The course combines close textual analysis with writing exercises inspired by the stories, such as parodies, shifts in perspective, and experiments with narrative voice. Additionally, we will examine the importance of the short story as a literary form, the creative conditions in which it arises, and the various interpretations that writers offer of this creative process. Studying these short pieces will teach us to both analyze and produce short stories in Spanish.

En este curso de literatura hispanoamericana leeremos cuentos de escritores y escritoras de la región para explorar la riqueza de sus voces, formas y temas en formato breve. El curso combinará el análisis atento de los textos con ejercicios de escritura inspirados en los cuentos —imitaciones, cambios de perspectiva, experimentos con la voz narrativa, etc.—. Asimismo, examinaremos la importancia del cuento como forma de producción literaria, las condiciones creativas en las que surge y las diferentes interpretaciones que los escritores y escritoras proponen de este proceso creativo. La idea es que estudiar las piezas breves nos enseñe tanto a analizar como a producir relatos en la lengua española.
