This course is designed to extend students' knowledge received in the course on Old Norse Literature, although it is not a prerequisite to attend it. While reading the Old Scandinavian texts, the students get familiar with relevant grammatical categories. Students interested in Germanic languages will gain insight into development of grammar within this group of languages leading to a deeper understanding of grammatical and syntactic phenomena in modern languages. Preliminary knowledge of any Scandinavian language is not required.

Kurz nepředpokládá znalost žádného skandinávského jazyka, během četby staroseverských textů budou probírány jednotlivé gramatické kategorie. Pro zájemce o germánské jazyky představuje možnost vhledu do vývoje gramatiky v rámci této jazykové skupiny, a tím i hlubší pochopení gramatických a syntaktických jevů v současných jazycích. Po obsahové stránce slouží kurz k ilustraci a doplnění myšlenek probíraných v kurzu Svět staroseverské literatury, jenž však není pro zapsání do tohoto semináře podmínkou.
