Annotation
The course will introduce the students to the thought and work of one of the most significant Christian missiologists
of the 20th century, David J. Bosch, paying particular attention to his ground-breaking Transforming Mission
(1991). The focus of the course will be in discussing the New Testament models for mission as identified in
Matthew, Luke and Paul, the historical models of Christian mission, and the outline of a model for mission in the
ecumenical/postmodern period as suggested by Bosch himself.
The aim of the course will be not only to understand and reflect upon Bosch’s work, but also to interpret these
models for contemporary missiology as well as to think about their relevance for the missionary work of today’s
churches. Discussing and assessing Bosch’s work, its reception in current missiology will also be considered.

Requirements for passing the course: active participation at the seminar (incl. the assigned readings), oral
presentation, final essay
