The course Applied Physical Activities – Specialization I is a comprehensive introductory course in the field of applied physical activities (APA) for people with special educational needs. The course integrates special educational, and didactic approaches to physical activities and sports for people with disabilities and builds on previously separate courses focused on athletics and sports games for people with disabilities. The practical part is divided into the first half of the semester – athletics (applied and modified basic disciplines for the visually impaired and wheelchair athletes) and the second half – sports games (a selection of games modified for various groups of people with special educational needs). Emphasis is placed on the principles of adaptation, safety, and didactic use in school physical education and extracurricular activities. Students will learn the basic procedures for training and assisting in the field of guiding (guiding visually impaired athletes) and wheelchair athletes in basic athletic disciplines taught in school physical education. Other types of disabilities and their modifications in athletics will also be discussed. Students will also be introduced to modifications of sports games and the integration of people with specific needs into these games.
