The aim of the course is to familiarise the students with the development and contemporary standing of significant world literatures written in English. The course is taught by means of seminars, whose main focus is analysis of seminal works of contemporary Irish, Canadian, Australian and Scottish literary production on the background of the cultures, from which they have sprung, and from the perspective of postcolonial and poststructuralist theories.

Cílem předmětu je seznámit studenty s vývojem a zejména současností zásadních světových literatur psaných v anglickém jazyce. Výuka probíhá prostřednictvím seminářů, jejichž těžiště tvoří analýza výrazných děl soudobé irské, kanadské, australské a skotské literární románové tvorby na pozadí historického vývoje kultur, ze kterých vyrůstají. Způsob nahlížení je ovlivněn perspektivou postkoloniální a poststrukturalistické teorie, jež jsou v kurzu rovněž nastíněny.
Semináře samotné se sestávají ze stručného úvodu do filozofického a literárně-historického kontextu vzniku jednotlivých děl, předem připravené a schválené prezentace aspektů románů studenty a následné moderované diskuse.
Předmět je zakončen esejí, jež by měla odrážet schopnost studentů reflektovat teoretické vědomosti při interpretaci a analýze konkrétních děl.

2. Předmět je zakončen esejí, jež by měla odrážet schopnost studentů reflektovat teoretické vědomosti při interpretaci a analýze konkrétních děl. Esej se píše na místě, má cca 600 slov a studenti si vybírají jedno ze dvou nabízených témat.
