This seminar is a follow-up to two courses, namely Text Linguistics and Stylistics, and Pragmatics. It consolidates, broadens and develops the knowledge and skills already gained. The seminar activities explore diverse approaches to text and discourse, which are demonstrated and applied to authentic samples of various text-types, genres, styles, registers, varieties, etc. The course provides students with analytical instruments, cultivates their stylistic sensitivity and enhances their interpretive erudition.

In case the pandemic situation precludes face-to-face classroom interactions, the introductory seminars will be held online via Zoom and later replaced by independent seminar projects involving a comprehensive analysis of three short samples of diverse text types, genres or styles. This module asks the students to carry out on a weekly basis various home assignments, i.e., comprehensive analyses of samples representing diverse text types, genres, styles, varieties, etc.which facilitate team discussions in seminars. The credits are given to students on the basis of their active group discussions in seminars (established on thorough home preparation) and on the basis of a presentation of an independently performed interpretation of a sample.
