Annotation -
The course focuses on the basics of developmental and personality psychology that are useful for everyday life and pedagogical profession. The goal is to acquire selected findings from various areas of development and personality and to understand the practical implications of these findings. After the course, the students will understand developmental needs and individual characteristics that influence education. The first part of the course addresses development from neonatal age to young adulthood and the second part of the course introduces students into the main personality traits, achievement characteristics, and motivational characteristics.

Předmět má 3 kredity dle ECTS, celková časová zátěž studenta odpovídá 75 hodinám. Doba očekávané přípravy na 1 hodinu přednášky 15 minut, doba očekávané přípravy na 1 hodinu semináře 20 minut, samostudium literatury (za celý semestr) 10 hodin, práce se studijními materiály (za celý semestr) 6 hodin, plnění průběžných úkolů (za celý semestr) 10 hodin. Závěrečná práce 8 hodin, příprava na zápočet 10 hodin.

Requirements to the exam -

A minimum of 62 points is required for successful completion of the course. A maximum of 52 points can be obtained for the submission of homework assignments (2 in total; assessed with full points if submitted on time and according to the assignment) and 48 points can be obtained for the final test, which will be conducted on the Moodle platform and will need to be registered for in advance in SIS (one regular and two makeup dates). The sum of the points obtained for the assignments and the test will be converted into final grades as follows: 62 - 74 points = grade 3; 75 - 87 points = grade 2; 88 - 100 points = grade 1.

Learning outcomes -

The student is able to:
- describe the main tenets of key theories of psychological development, listing their main authors and examples of their implications for education,
- characterise the developmental stages of childhood and identify key psychological changes in cognitive, emotional and social development and give examples of their specific manifestations,
- explain the specificities of adolescence, including the differences between early, middle and late adolescence, and assess the risks and benefits of these changes for education in the school setting,
- analyse psychological development in young adulthood and identify key factors influencing development during this period, with an emphasis on the development of self-concept and social development,
- defines temperament, distinguishes the main temperamental characteristics and suggests ways to work with these characteristics in the teacher-child/teacher-adolescent relationship,
- describe the basic personality traits and their relationship to learning and coping,
- explain the manifestation and function of performance and motivational personality traits and give examples of opportunities to develop these traits in the learning process.
