In this chronological survey, we will study the spectrum of German literature from naturalism to expressionism. The seminar is designed to engage students in the careful reading and critical analysis of literature from the variety genres at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. Syllabus: Naturalism, Impressionism, Art nouveau, Neoromanticism, Symbolism, "Heimatkunst". Prose at the turn of the century: Heinrich Mann, Thomas Mann, Robert Musil, Robert Walser, Rainer Maria Rilke, Hermann Hesse, Hugo von Hofmannsthal. Drama at the turn of the century: Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Arthur Schnitzler, Frank Wedekind. Lyrics: Hofmannsthal, George, Rilke, Morgenstern. Expressionism: Franz Werfel, Alfred Döblin, Carl Einstein; G.Kaiser, Hasenclever; Georg Trakl, Georg Heym, Gottfried Benn, Franz Werfel, Else Lasker-Schüler u.a.

Cílem kurzu je seznámit studenty s vybranými díly německy psané literatury z období od naturalismu k expresionismu. Důraz se klade na literárněestetické a kulturněhistorické aspekty probíraných děl. Obsah přednášky: Naturalismus jako první moderní směr - program a umělecká teorie, umělecká sdružení a časopisy; próza (Holz, Schlaf), naturalistické drama (Hauptmann). Umělecké směry na přelomu století: impresionismus, secese, novoromantika, symbolismus, "Heimatkunst". Próza na přelomu století: Heinrich Mann, Thomas Mann, Robert Musil, Robert Walser, Rainer Maria Rilke, Hermann Hesse, Hugo von Hofmannsthal. Drama na přelomu století: Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Arthur Schnitzler, Frank Wedekind. Lyrika: Hofmannsthal, George, Rilke, Morgenstern. Expresionismus: předpoklady a základní rysy; drama: G.Kaiser, Hasenclever; lyrika: Georg Trakl, Georg Heym, Gottfried Benn, Franz Werfel, Else Lasker-Schüler, próza: Franz Werfel, Alfred Döblin, Carl Einstein;

Aim of the course

Požadavky: Aktivní účast na seminářích. 
 
Požadavky k ústní zkoušce: Dobrá orientace v německy psané literatuře od naturalismu až do expresionismu (včetně). Obecné vývojové principy, žánry, témata, představitelé, díla. Nedílnou součástí zkoušky je diskuze o vlastní četbě. U zkoušky je tudíž nutné předložit seznam přečtených knih.
