Tento kurz si klade za cíl seznámit studenty s vybranými významnými díly dvou nejvýznačnějších anglofonních literatur jako součásti jedné vývojové trajektorie od počátku 20. století až do současnosti. Díla budou za aktivní účasti studentů analyzována z hlediska jejich jedinečných formálních aspektů a zároveň i z perspektivy společensko-kulturních vlivů a historického kontextu.

2. Britská literatura od 30. do 60. let 20. století: George Orwell: “A Hanging”, Kingsley Amis: Lucky Jim, Jean Rhys: Wide Sargasso Sea
3. Postmodernismus v britské literatuře: A.S Byatt: Possession
4. Britská literatura od 80. let 20. století do současnosti: Hanif Kureishi: “Weddings and Beheadings”/ The Buddha of Suburbia – vybrané části, Kazuo Ishiguro: Never Let Me Go, Julian Barnes: The Sense of an Ending/ The Only Story
5. Britské drama 20. století: Harold Pinter: The Room, Caryl Churchill: Top Girls, Jezz Butterworth: Jerusalem
6. Britská poezie od 2. světové války do současnosti: Philip Larkin, Ted Hughes, Seamus Heaney, Benjamin Zephaniah, Carol Ann Duffy – vybrané básně
7. Americká realistická a naturalistická próza začátku 20. století: investigativní román (Upton Sinclair: The Jungle, vybrané ukázky), dystopické vize (Jack London: The Scarlet Plague)
