The content of the Comprehensive Exam in German Language and Literature (for graduating students of the follow-up Master's degree program) is an essay on one of the four offered topics. These are topics from the fields of German language literature, linguistics, linguistics and didactics of non-linguistic disciplines, one topic is of a general nature. The essay should contain at least 500 words. Grammar, stylistics and content are taken into account when evaluating the essay. Content ratings are guided by the principle that the text adheres to the outline drawn up in the introduction to the essay. The text should be related to the chosen topic and should express the writer's opinion. As far as style is concerned, the essay should show how students are able to express themselves in German on a given topic in an appropriate functional style using a wide range of stylistic means. If a student receives grade 4 (failed) in any of the above categories, then the essay is assessed as a whole. Otherwise, the final grade is the average of grammar, stylistic and content grade.

Náplní předmětu Klauzurní práce z německého jazyka a literatury (pro studenty končícího navazujícího magisterského studia) je vypracování eseje na jedno ze čtyř nabízených témat. Jedná se o témata z oblastí literatury německého jazyka, lingvistiky, lingvodidaktiky a didaktiky nelingvistických disciplín, jedno téma je obecného charakteru. Esej má obsahovat nejméně 500 slov. Při vyhodnocení eseje se zohledňuje gramatika, stylistika a obsah. Hodnocení obsahu se řídí zásadou, že se text drží osnovy, která je vypracována v úvodu eseje. Text se má vázat ke zvolenému tématu a má argumentativně vyjadřovat názor pisatelky/pisatele. Co se týče stylu, měl by esej ukázat, nakolik jsou studenti schopni se v odpovídajícím funkčním stylu za využití širokého rejstříku stylistických prostředků vyjadřovat v německém jazyce k danému tématu. Pokud student v některé z uvedených kategorií získá známku 4 (neprospěl), pak je esej jako celek hodnocen touto známkou. V jiném případě výslednou známku tvoří průměr známek z gramatiky, stylistiky a obsahu.

When evaluating grammatical errors the whole grammatical error in German is counted, the spelling error or punctuation is evaluated by a half-point. Repeated errors are taken into account. The quotient is used in the evaluation, eg. when someone writes an essay with 600 words, and 10 errors are found in the text, the quotient of 6.0 is calculated from the word / error relationship (600: 10x10).
The grades thus reach the quotient interval: 0 - 2.99 = 4 (failed); 3.0 - 5.99 = 3 (good); 6.0 - 8.99 = 2 (very good); > 9.0 = 1 (excellent). The essay would therefore be graded 2 (very well) in grammar and orthography. The student has 3 attempts to pass.
