Content of the course: Gender definition. Approaches to gender concept by various social sciences. Gender studies. Gender and sex. Biological and social determination of differences between women and men. Femininity and masculinity. Gender socialization. Gender role. Gender identity. Gender in private and public sphere. Gender and employment. Gender and families. Aim of the course

The purpose of the course is to present the concept of gender and theoretical and methodological background for the application of gender perspective to school reality. The emphases will be laid on gender sensitiviness and the link between current pedagogical and psychological theories and gender. The attention will be paid to reading scientific papers, research results and practical examples that illustrate gender interference of social and school reality.

1) the attendance (just the one absence is tolerated)

2) to read the articles and to prepare the particular tasks accross the course

Organization of the course: - 6 meetings , for each lesson to read the article an/or to realize the practical task

- task: to read an article A (SIS), to describe your own school experience in gendered situation (the text send at least 4 days before a lesson)

- content: teachers, curriculum, textbooks
- task: to read an article B (SIS), to analyze one textbook in gender perspective

4.meeting
- content: communication between teachers and students and in peer groups, evaluation, achievments
- task: to read an article C (SIS), to prepare a short summary from the text

5.meeting
- content: gender segregation in education, single-sex education, career choices
- task: to read an article D (SIS), to prepare a short summary from the text

6.meeting
- content: gender equal policy, government and NGO´s projects
- task: to describe the situation in your own country, to find and evaluate one project concerning gender equality in education
