Jan Amos Komenský (1592-1670) was a Czech-speaking Moravian teacher, writer and the last bishop of the Unity of Brethren. He became a religious refugee during the Thirty Years' War, which dominated Europe during his lifetime, and lived in exile for many years. This course will introduce students to the extraordinary life and work of this 17th century social reformer and philosopher whose ideas are still fresh today.
Twelve class sessions will be conducted in the classroom and will include discussion activities. Students will explore how key themes can impact their lives and professional practice. In addition, students will be required to study independently using study materials on Moodle to broaden and deepen their knowledge. The course will be of interest to students studying education and a wide range of humanities disciplines. This course will also be available online for 4EU+ Alliance students.
Cross-cutting skills: discussion, reflection, critical analysis, independent study.
Prerequisites: B2 level of English.
