Annotation -
The course pursues two goals: (1) To acquaint students with the experimental method in general and with the most frequently occurring types of experiments within psychology. (2) To introduce the randomized controlled trial (RCT) as a specific type of experimental design. The first part of the course will be dedicated to theoretical basics of experimental design and of RCTs. The second part of the course will focus on analyzing real RCTs. The third part will be dedicated to designing RCT.

Learning outcomes -
  • Define Experimental Methods: Learners define key concepts of experimental design and its use in psychology.

  • Describe RCTs: Learners describe randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and explain their significance in research.

  • Analyze RCTs: Learners analyze real examples of RCTs, assessing their design, implementation, and outcomes.

  • Design RCTs: Learners design their own RCTs, considering randomization, control groups, and ethical principles.

  • Apply Ethical Principles: Learners apply ethical principles in the design and conduct of experimental research.

  • Interpret and Present Results: Learners interpret data from RCTs and present results using appropriate methods and scientific writing.
