English

The first part of the course focuses mainly on British architecture, particularly on some of Britain's greatest historic buildings throughout the course of the last thousand years and examines their impact on Britain's social history. Each of the six thematic units opens with a viewing of a documentary on the respective historical period buildings and is accompanied by a discussion of a selected text or a novel relevant to that particular period. The emphasis is put on the 'living' aspect of architecture and its indispensable role in shaping and reflecting a given society and its national and regional identities respectively. On completing this part of the course, the students should have gained a 'vantage-point' perspective that will deepen and broaden their understanding of the British social structure and the differences and similarities that obtain between theirs and our own cultural and social spaces.

První část kurzu se zaměřuje především na britskou architekturu, zejména na některé z nejlepších britských historických staveb v průběhu minulého tisíciletí a zkoumá jejich dopad na britskou sociální historii. Každý ze šesti tematických celků je uveden dokumentárním filmem o stavbách daného historického období a je doprovázen diskusí o vybraném textu či románu, který je pro toto období relevantní. Důraz je kladen na živý aspekt architektury a její nenahraditelnou roli při utváření a reflektování dané společnosti a jejích národních a regionálních identit. Absolvováním tohoto kurzu by studenti měli získat nadhled, který prohloubí a rozšíří jejich chápání britské společenské struktury a rozdílů či podobností, které vyvstávají mezi jejich a naším vlastním kulturním a společenským prostorem.

Před absolvováním zápočtového testu student odevzdá kresbu architektonického objektu podle své vlastní volby, ideálně z geografických oblastí diskutovaných v průběhu semestru.

Zápočet má formu písemného testu, který zjišťuje základní obeznámenost s tématy probíranými v seminářích a zahrnuje i krátký poznávací test staveb, které byly prezentovány v rámci seminařů; minimální požadavek pro splnění je 65% úspěšnost v testu.
