The aim of this course is to introduce students to some major works of English literature from its earliest beginnings to the second half of the eighteenth century. The lectures are designed to offer a general historical, social and cultural context of the time when they were written. The seminars deal with reading and analysis of the individual selected works.

Cílem kurzu je seznámit studenty s hlavními díly anglické literatury od jejích raných počátků až do 2.poloviny 18.století. Přednášky jsou strukturovány tak, aby poskytly obecný historický, společenský a kulturní kontext doby, ve které byla jednotlivá díla napsána, semináře se zaměřují na jejich čtení a analýzu.
