Annotation -
The aim of the course is to introduce the basic terminology of English phonetics and phonology on the segmental level. The course focuses on training the correct articulation of problematic English sounds and development of transcription skills.

1) introduction to phonetics and phonology; some basic terminology; pronunciation model; phonemic chart

2) speech and writing; speech organs; production of speech

3) English pure vowels; pre-fortis shortening

4) English diphthongs, triphthongs

5) general classification of English consonants; devoicing

6) plosives (aspiration; inaudible release); silent letters

7) fricatives; affricates

8) nasals; approximants (clear and dark l)
