Annotation -
The seminary is devoted to the reading and commentary of the most important paragraphs of greek mathematical writings. Organised in cooperation with the philosophical faculty of Charkes University.

This course helps to obtain theoretical background for teaching mathematics at high school.

Course completion requirements -

Testing during the semster and at the end of the semester:

  • testing of the knowledge of the subject matter covered during the semester.

Final testing student can repeat, (1 regular and 2 correction terms).

Active participation in seminars is strongly recommended.

Syllabus -

1. Seznam dochovaných textů a kritický pohled na předkládané teorie o vývoji řecké matematiky v jejich světle.

2. Matematické pasáže u Platóna a Aristotela. Předeukleidovské zlomky (Hippokratovy měsíčky, nalezení dvou středních úměrných u Archyty a Menaichma).

3. Eukleidovy Základy, neopythagorejská aritmetika (Nicomachos z Gerasy).
