Annotation -
The lecture is devoted to experimental methods based on neutron scattering, which are used in solid state physics and material research. Application of individual methods are demonstrated on experiments in current neutron laboratories (ILL Grenoble and others). Recommended for diploma and PhD students working in the field of condensed matter physics seeking further specialization in microscopic aspects of physical phenomena in materials. Suitable after lectures from structure analysis and magnetic properties (FPL012, FPL122).

Syllabus -
FPL073 Continuous a pulsed neutron sources. large facilities - ILL, ISIS, polarized neutrons. Basics of methods, instrumental techniques, data analysis and interpretation:
  • diffraction methods,
  • critical a diffuse scattering,
  • small angle scattering,
  • inelastic and quasielastic scattering,
  • neutron optics a topography. Comparison with methods utilizing X-ray and synchrotron radiation.
