Selected fields of crystal physics: structure, atomic vibrations (phonons), energy levels of electrons, band model, excitons, plasmons. Properties of metals, semiconductors and dielectrics. P-N junction, heterojunctions.

Interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter emphasizing on semiconductors and metals.

Principles of sources and detectors based on semiconductors: LED, laser, photoconductor, photodiode, CCD. Modulators of radiation.
