Dynamics of galaxies

epicyclic approximation; dynamics if the field of a bar; Lindblad resonances;

angular momentum transfer accross the Lindblad resonances and corrotation

Theory of spiral waves

Jeans' instability; instabilities in rotating systems; instability in two-

dimensional systems - Toomre's criterion; theory of Lin & Shu

Star cluster dynamics

relaxation time; dynamical friction; virial theorem; gravothermal catasthrope;

Jeans' theorem; polytropic models of star clusters (Plummer sphere, isothermal

sphere); Fokker-Planck approximation; Rosenbluth potentials; two-body
