The aim of this course is to present students with various methods that can be used in evolutionary biology sensu lato. One of the objectives is to show students basic procedures for modeling the occurrence of taxa using the maximum entropy rule using MaxEnt. Furthermore, the exercise focuses on theoretical and practical understanding of the digital record of UV reflectance of structures, mainly butterfly wings. The next part of the course is devoted to the basics of geometric morphometry and related statistical methods of data analysis. Last but not least, the course will introduce students to the concepts of cellular automata and virtual models of evolution. Furthermore, the course deals with practical demonstration and exercises of the application of GIS in the context of research in evolutionary ecology and macroecology. The course is a suitable supplement to the lecture Introduction to Evolutionary Biology (MB170P55) and Microevolution and Macroevolution (MB160P60).
