Annotation -
The lecture introduces students to the basics of soil science: soil definition, formation and development of soils, soil composition, physical properties of soils, air and water in soil, soil organic matter, colloidal soil system, soil reaction, sorption in soil, soil organisms, soil classification, soil conservation and protection, anthropogenic soil degradation (physical, chemical) and remedial options, soil protection legislation. Part of the course is a two-day practical exercise in the CZU laboratories in Prague-Suchdol, where students learn basic soil analysis procedures. Practice usually takes place in the first exam week in January.
