The initiation to the elementary methods used in demographic analysis. Exemples are provided for developed countries, the Czech Republic and to some extent for developing world. Main trends and patterns are highlighted. Lexis diagram and classification of rates in demography. Mortality analysis - data sources, direct and indirect standardization techniques, life table and its calculation including applications for specific populations, prenatal and infant mortality, neonatal, postneonatal and perinatal rates, study of causes of deaths, multiple-decrement tables, differential mortality. Morbidity analysis - incidence and prevalence rates. Period and cohort perspectives.

Oral exam. Students will answer two questions based on the topics listed in the syllabus. The condition of participation in the oral exam is the granting of credit on the basis of the completion of the tasks in the dates required during the exercises and the successful completion of the final written test.
