Please note, the lectures are given in Czech language. English version of the course can be requested in advance
if there are at least 3 students. History and basic ideas of sociobiology; genetics of behaviours; advantages od sociality, reciprocal altruism and co-operation; kin altruism, helpers, family; individual and kin recognition, origin of eusociality: Hymenoptera, termites, other insects, mammals; infanticide; parental conflict; siblicide; brood parasitism; communication, honest signals; territoriality and its consequences; mating systems - monogamy, polyandry, polygyny, lek, promiscuity, reproductive systems in insects, ungulates, rodents, carnivores; foraging and feeding behaviour; learning and evolution. The lecture is supplemented by a three-day field trip to the zoo in Dvůr Králové nad Labem (financial participation of students required - entrance fee, travel and accommodation). Zkouška je ústní a velmi podrobná. Předmětem zkoušky je vše, co bylo odpřednášeno behem přednášky, jakož i obsah doplňkové četby z oboru, kterou si studenti mohou zvolit dle pokynů vyučujících. Zkouška prověřuje jak přímo znalosti, tak i schopnost pochopit souvislosti (k tomu jsou ovšem potřeba elementární znalosti zoologie, ekologie a evoluční biologie a dalších biologických oborů získané předchozím studiem). Analyzes the theoretical and historical foundations of sociobiology, focusing on behavioral genetics, levels of selection, and mechanisms of the evolution of social cooperation and altruism. Compares the diversity of mating systems and forms of parental care in fish, reptiles, birds, and mammals within the framework of life history theory and evolutionary success. Interprets the ecological and evolutionary factors shaping social organization, hierarchy, and reproductive strategies in selected model groups, such as carnivores, ungulates, or rodents. Develops a detailed analysis of the social structure and behavior of a specific animal species based on the synthesis of scientific literature and practical observation during the field excursion. Explains the principles of intraspecific conflict, infanticide, brood parasitism, and communication using honest signals as part of complex evolutionary strategies. Applies theoretical models of foraging behavior and territoriality to real-life situations observed in natural habitats or zoo environments.
