Requirements to the exam -
The examination consists of a written and an oral part. Successful passing of the written part (translation of an unknown Latin text) is a prerequisite for admission to the oral part (translation and interpretation of texts in the minimal extent of 18,000 characters).
In the WRITTEN part of the examination, the student translates an unknown Latin text; a Latin-Czech dictionary (preferably Pražák-Novotný-Sedláček) is a permitted aid.
The starting material for the ORAL part is a corpus of texts of at least 18,000 characters, approved by the examiner. In this part of the examination, after a short preparation and without a dictionary, the student will demonstrate knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and the ability to apply this knowledge in the interpretation of the text. For an overview of the required grammatical competence, see the syllabus.
The corpus of texts must include the following time or genre areas: classical Roman literature (2nd century BC - 2nd century AD, at least 1,800 characters), medieval (at least 1,800 characters), modern (at least 1,800 characters), text or texts from the field of the history of visual arts (at least 1,800 characters), text or texts from the field of theology (at least 1,800 characters), biblical or liturgical text (at least 1,800 characters), historiographical text (at least 1,800 characters), inscription or inscriptions (at least 500 characters), quantitative poetry (at least 10 verses), syllabotonic or syllabic poetry (at least 10 verses). The total extent of the whole corpus must be at least 18,000 characters.
A reliable ability to read an unknown Latin text fluently and correctly is required and tested during the oral part of the examination.
The corpus of texts chosen for the oral part of the examination must be submitted for approval no later than one month after the beginning of the semester in which the examination is scheduled.

Zkouška má část písemnou a ústní. Úspěšné splnění písemné části (překlad neznámého latinského textu v rozsahu cca půl normostrany) je podmínkou pro připuštění k části ústní (překlad a výklad předem připravených textů v rozsahu 10 normostran).
V PÍSEMNÉ části student překládá neohlášený latinský text v délce cca půl normostrany; dovolená pomůcka je latinsko-český slovník (nejlépe Pražák – Novotný – Sedláček).
Výchozí materiál ÚSTNÍ části je soubor textů v úhrnném rozsahu minimálně 10 normostran, sestavený studentem a schválený zkoušejícím. Student v této části zkoušky po krátké přípravě a bez slovníku prokáže znalost slovní zásoby, mluvnické stavby a literární formy textů a schopnost aplikovat tyto znalosti při interpretaci textu. Přehled mluvnické látky, jejíž znalost je třeba prokázat - viz sylabus.
Soubor textů k ústní části zkoušky musí zahrnovat následující časové, resp. tematické oblasti: klasičtí římští autoři (2. stol. př. Kr. - 2. stol. po Kr., alespoň 1 normostrana), středověk (alespoň 1 normostrana), novověk (alespoň 1 normostrana), text nebo texty z oblasti dějin umění (alespoň 1 normostrana), text nebo texty z oblasti teologie (alespoň 1 normostrana), biblický nebo liturgický text/texty (alespoň 1 normostrana), text nebo texty historiografické povahy (alespoň 1 normostrana), nápis nebo nápisy (alespoň v rozsahu 500 znaků), časoměrná poezie (alespoň 10 veršů), sylabotónická nebo sylabická poezie (alespoň 10 veršů). Úhrnný rozsah celého souboru musí být minimálně 10 normostran.
Nezbytnou podmínkou pro úspěšné složení zkoušky je také spolehlivá dovednost plynule a správně číst latinský text, která se ověřuje četbou neznámého úryvku klasického, středověkého nebo novověkého textu.
Soubor textů k ústní části zkoušky musí student předložit ke schválení nejpozději měsíc po zahájení semestru, ve kterém má zkoušku zapsánu.
K získání potřebných znalostí latinské mluvnice a slovní zásoby slouží kurzy KJAZ040 Latinský jazyk 1, KJAZ045 Latinský jazyk 2, KJAZ046 Latinský jazyk 3 a KJAZ047 Latinský jazyk 4.
Bezprostřední přípravu na zkoušku poskytují kurzy KJAZ211 Četba a výklad latinských textů 1 a KJAZ212 Četba a výklad latinských textů 2.
