The mission of the seminar is to provide a systematic overview of the history and culture of religious orders and
congregations, with particular emphasis on their role in the cultural unification of Europe on a Christian basis. Main
topics: 1) Western monasticism, his reforms and the emergence of new types of religious communities - canon,
chivalrous, mendicant and other orders; 2) Religious rules and everyday life in the monasteries; 3) The status of
women in religious communities; 4) Comparison with the monasteries in Orthodoxy and the Eastern Churches; 5)
The monastic architecture from the Middle Ages to the present. Approximately half of the exercise takes the form of
an excursion to Prague monasteries. Cf. previous semester to http://klastery.zonerama.com/Album/315429. The
excursion also discussed topics in the winter and summer semestersvary.----------------------------------------------------
Consultations can be conducted in Czech, Russian and English.
