Annotation -
First semester: the Gospel according to John: stylistic devices, literary structure, content and message, sources, relationship to
Synoptic Gospels, authorship and the beloved disciple, history of the Johannine community. Exegesis of selected texts. Input
prerequisites: reading of the selected texts in the original Greek.

Aim of the course -

The primary goal is to provide an orientation to the New Testament writings of John.
The secondary goal is to learn the basic literary devices and theological themes of these writings.
The tertiary goal is to conduct an exegesis of selected texts.

Requirements to the exam -

1. The Gospel of John: literary devices, authorship, possible sources, literary structure.
2. Interpretation of John 1-12.
3. Reading the Greek text and exegetical interpretation of John's Prologue (John 1:1-18).
